Is Professor of intensive care at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Head of the Department of Intensive Care at the Erasme University Hospital in Brussels. He has authored or co-authored more than 750 peer-reviewed publications, about 90 books and more than 800 original abstracts. He is the editor-in-chief of 3 journals and member of the Editorial Boards of more than 30 journals. He is presently Secretary General of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive and Critical Care Medicine, a Past-President of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine, the European Shock Society, and the International Sepsis Forum. He received several awards (Society of Critical Care Medicine, American College of Chest Physicians, European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and Belgian FRS-FNRS).
