Certifications & AccreditationIn 2006, Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE) was accredited for the third consecutive time by Joint Commission International (JCI), the most important healthcare certification group. This was a very important achievement to assert our quality and commitment to excellence. In February 2006, a team of auditors visited the Hospital and gave their approval to 1,055 items, relating to 365 quality standards.
This accreditation focuses on patient safety and continuous quality improvement. Among the items assessed are healthcare infrastructure and environment, patient rights, access to and continuity of treatment, patient records, patient’s and relative’s guidance, equipment maintenance, human resources qualification, risk management and surveillance, accident and infection control. Physicians, registered nurses, technicians, physical therapists, nutritionists, pharmacists, occupational therapists, psychologists, speech and hearing therapists, support and administrative staff were all assessed. Patients and their families were interviewed. The Hospital was the first institution outside the U.S. to be accredited by Joint Commission International in 1999, when the international program was launched. It was reaccredited in 2003 and again in 2006. This recognition is a seal of exceptionally high quality for the Hospital and for our Diagnostic & Preventive Medicine. Stroke Program wins international certificationIn June 2007, HIAE became Latin America’s first healthcare institution and one of only three worldwide, to have a Stroke Care Center certified by Joint Commission International (JCI). Its interdisciplinary staff are highly trained and equipped with cutting edge technology to treat patients who suffer cerebrovascular accidents (CVA). This infrastructure and continuous improvement of processes are distinctive features that make HIAE a reference in stroke care. HIAE collaborates with public-sector institutions to help improve stroke treatment, which ranks second among the causes of death in the city of São Paulo and third in Brazil as a whole. In 2007, HIAE offered stroke assessment and treatment training to 200 professionals employed by the Campo Limpo Municipal Hospital and 50 professionals employed by the City of São Paulo Emergency Service (SAMU). It also helped organize a stroke care center in Fortaleza, Ceará. Another initiative in the city of São Paulo included a campaign to inform the public about the disease using fliers and other media. CertificationsCertification processes provide opportunities for improvement in several areas and help us guarantee quality and safety. SBIBAE has won a number of certifications that are periodically renewed: ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
ISO 9001:2000 & American Association of Blood Banks (AABB)
